Two of the most exciting cities in Asia. The memories of the 2008 Beijing Olympics mixed with the spectacular sights of imperial Beijing, and a visit to futuristic Shanghai. Your holiday is enhanced by stays at a choice of comfortable and modern 4 or 5 star hotels, coupled with leisure time in both cities to allow you time to explore or shop on your own. Evenings are at leisure for you to sample the many exciting restaurants both cities feature.
Itinerary
Day 1 Beijing (no meal)
Upon arrival, you will be met by your Westwood Holidays guide and transferred to your hotel.
You will be free for the remainder of the day.
Day 2 Beijing (B)
Join a morning tour of Tian'anmen Square, the largest public square in the world, and the Palace Museum, known as the Forbidden City; the complex of imperial palaces was home to the emperors for over 500 years in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Some of the grand halls have been used as museums for fine collections of Chinese treasures. Afternoon you’ll be free at leisure.
Day 3 Beijing (B, L )
Join a full day excursion to the Great Wall - the landmark of China and one of the most amazing feats of human labor. After lunch, you’ll visit to the Ming Tombs where the deceased emperors of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644AD) were buried. After the long day tour and walk on the Wall, you may want to have some relaxation and an optional foot massage will be a good choice.
Day 4 Beijing (B)
This morning you will be driven to visit the Temple of Heaven, where the Ming and Qing emperors prayed for good harvest. It is the largest temple complex remaining in China today. You’ll also have a 1 hour Tai chi class in Temple of Heaven. Afternoon you’ll be free at leisure.
Day 5 Beijing-Shanghai (B)
This morning, you’ll take the Bullet Train D31 (1st class ticket) to Shanghai. Depart Beijing at 11:05, and arrive Shanghai at 20:49. Upon arrival, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 6 Shanghai (B)
Your sightseeing this morning features a tour of the Yuyuan Garden, the old area of the city, and the Old Town Bazaar. You are free for the afternoon.
Day 7 Shanghai (B)
Today you’ll be free to explore Shanghai city on your own.
Day 8 Departure (B)
At leisure until your transfer to the airport for your homebound flight.
